Christmas Gift Tags for Kids: Personalised Name Tags That Make Every Present Theirs
What to write on a Christmas gift tag for a child, where to stick it so it survives Christmas morning, and how many you need. Personalised gift tags are 12 for Rs 329.
It's 11 at night on 24 December. The gifts are wrapped, the tape is everywhere, and there are three parcels in the same red paper. Which one was for your daughter, which for her cousin, and which was the one you bought for the neighbour's boy? This is the night gift tags for kids were made for. A small tag with a name on it settles who gets what before anyone has to ask, and it's the cheapest way to make any present feel picked for one particular child.
The short answer Put a name tag on the top of every parcel, on a flat part of the paper, not across a fold. Write the child's first name big and keep the message short: "For Aanya, love Nani" is plenty. For the gifts your child gives, our personalised gift tags come 12 to a pack for Rs 329, printed with "Best Wishes" and your child's name, in kids' designs from dinosaurs to ballerinas.
Why a name tag beats a card under the tree
A card slips off. A ribbon tag gets pulled loose by the first impatient sibling. A sticker-style gift tag stays put on the paper, so the name is still there when the parcel is passed across the room on Christmas morning.

There's another reason we like them. Young children can't read a scrawled "To R." on brown paper, but they can find their own name when it's printed clearly with a picture they like. Our view: if a four-year-old can spot their parcel without help, the tag has done its job.

What should I write on a Christmas gift tag for a child?
Keep it short enough for the child to read, or to have read out to them in one breath. Here's how we'd write it for each kind of gift.
| The gift is for | Write | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Your own child | "For Kabir, with love, Mamma and Papa" | First name big, sender small |
| A niece, nephew or grandchild | "Merry Christmas, Ira! From Nani" | Tells the parents who to thank |
| Siblings sharing one gift | "For Arjun and Meher, to share" | Settles the argument in advance |
| A school Secret Santa | The classmate's name only, as the school note asks | Secret Santa means no sender |
| A teacher, from your child | "Merry Christmas, Ms Thomas, from Riya (Class 2B)" | A teacher gets many gifts; the class helps |
One thing we'd avoid is the full name and surname on a gift that travels: to school, on a bus, or to a party at someone else's home. A first name is enough for the right child to find it.
If a four-year-old can find their own parcel without help, the gift tag has done its job.
Personalised Christmas gift tags: sticker or hanging tag?
Hanging tags look lovely in photos. In a house with children, they get tugged off. That's why our personalised gift tag stickers are a flat, waterproof vinyl tag, 2 x 2.5 inches, that you can stick straight onto the paper or tie on with a string if you prefer the hanging look.
Each pack has 12 tags for Rs 329. The tags are printed with a short greeting, "Best Wishes", above the name you type, so they work best for gifts your child gives: to cousins, friends, grandparents, the teacher, or as return gifts at a class party. Every parcel then says who it's from without your child writing twelve tags by hand. For gifts going to your child, a handwritten tag using the table above does the job. There are more than 15 children's designs on the gift labels and stickers page, including Space, Ballerina, Kitty Cats, Teddy, Football and our own Zootii design. We don't have a Christmas-specific print this year, and honestly a child's own favourite theme often means more to them than a generic snowman.

Where to stick the tag so it survives Christmas morning
The tag needs a clean, dry, flat surface to hold well. On a wrapped gift that means:

- The top face of the parcel, in the middle, not across a fold or a strip of tape.
- On a gift bag, the flat front panel, not the handles.
- On a gift box with no wrapping, the lid, so the name shows when it's stacked.
Don't stick these tags on clothes, fabric bags, leather or anything porous, and don't use them on curved water bottles. They're made for paper, card and smooth surfaces. For clothes and bags, a clothes label or a bag tag is the right product.
Almost missed this If you reuse gift boxes, peel off last year's tag before wrapping. A child reading two different names on one box is the kind of Christmas morning confusion nobody needs.

How many gift tags do you need for Christmas?
More than you think. Count the gifts your child gives, and the list usually looks like this: one for each cousin, a couple of close friends, the grandparents, a small thank-you for the teacher, and the house help's children if your child gives them something too. Leave the school Secret Santa out of this count, since that gift goes without a sender's name.
For most children that's well under 12 parcels, so one pack covers it. If your child is also giving return gifts to the whole class, order a second pack in the same design so every gift from them looks the same.

Order the tags before you wrap
Gift tags go on the paper, so they have to arrive before wrapping night, not on it. Personalised items are printed after you order and take 8 to 12 working days to reach you anywhere in India. Plan for at least two and a half weeks before the day you want to wrap.
Orders above Rs 399 ship free. A pack of tags on its own is Rs 329, so many parents add it to a gift order they're placing anyway. Before you pay, read the name out loud letter by letter. Every tag is printed exactly as typed, and Christmas is not the week to discover "Aarav" became "Arav". If you are also planning a class party, our Christmas return gifts for kids guide covers small named items that go home in a bag, all under Rs 400.
Frequently asked questions
What should I write on a Christmas gift tag for a child?
The child's first name in big letters and a short line from the sender, such as "For Aanya, love Nani". For a school Secret Santa, write only the classmate's name, as the school asks.
What size are your personalised gift tags?
Each tag is 2 x 2.5 inches, made of waterproof vinyl. A pack has 12 tags printed with "Best Wishes" and the name you choose, and costs Rs 329.
Whose name goes on a printed gift tag?
Usually your child's, as the giver. The tag reads "Best Wishes" and the name, so it suits gifts your child gives to cousins, friends, teachers or classmates at a party.
Can I use the gift tags on clothes or bags?
No. They're made for paper, card and smooth, dry surfaces. Use clothes labels for fabric and a bag tag for bags.
Do you have Christmas-design gift tags?
Not this year. Our gift tags come in more than 15 children's designs, such as Space, Ballerina, Teddy and Zootii, which suit Christmas gifts just as well.
How long do personalised gift tags take to arrive?
8 to 12 working days anywhere in India, since each pack is printed to order. Shipping is free on orders above Rs 399.
