Luggage Tags for Kids: How to Label a Family Trip So Nothing Comes Home Missing
A practical checklist for labelling kids' things before a family trip, from luggage tags to bottle labels, and what to put on the outside versus the inside. Includes the travel order Virat Kohli placed with Zootii in ...
It is 5:40 in the morning at the airport. One child is asleep on your shoulder. The other is holding a bottle, a colouring book and half a sandwich. Somewhere between the security tray and the gate, the bottle disappears.
Most family trips do not lose a suitcase. They lose the small things. A water bottle left in the seat pocket. A cabin backpack that looks exactly like two others at the hotel breakfast. One jacket, somewhere between the airport and the cab.
Good luggage tags for kids fix half of this. Name labels fix the rest.
The short answer Tag every bag your child carries, including the small cabin backpack, with a tag they can recognise from across a room. Label the loose things inside it: bottle, snack box, headphones, jacket. Outside, use a first name or initials only. Keep a parent's phone number inside the bag, where staff will look but strangers will not.
Why do kids' things go missing on trips?
Travel breaks routines
At home, the bottle lives on the dining table. On a trip it moves from car to airport tray to seat pocket to hotel room in one day.
Every handover is a chance to leave it behind. Children do not track things the way adults do.
Everything looks the same
Black suitcases, blue backpacks and steel bottles all look alike on a crowded belt or a hotel buffet table.
A tag or label that stands out does more than carry a name. It lets a child spot their own bag before somebody else picks it up.

The family trip labelling checklist
Do this a week before you leave, not the night before.

1. Suitcases and duffels
- One luggage tag outside, on the handle, with a first name or surname and a phone number.
- A paper card inside, on top, with full contact details and the hotel name.
- Something bright on the handle, so the bag is easy to spot on the belt.
2. The child's cabin backpack
This is the bag most likely to be put down and forgotten, so it gets the most attention.
- A bag tag the child chose themselves. Children keep an eye on things they feel are theirs.
- A name label inside the main compartment.
- If the backpack is new, show your child the tag before you leave, so they know what to look for.
Children keep an eye on the things they feel are theirs.
3. Bottles and snack boxes
These get left behind the most, usually on the plane or train.
- A waterproof name label on the bottle body, not the lid. Lids get swapped.
- Another on the snack box or tiffin lid.
4. Jackets, caps and swimwear
Hotel pools and winter trips are where clothes disappear.
- An iron-on label on the inside seam of every jacket and cap.
- For swimwear, a label on the inside waistband.
5. Small gadgets
Headphones, tablet covers and chargers: a small label on each. Ten minutes, and nobody argues over whose charger it is.
What should a kids' luggage tag say?
Keep it short, and think about who will read it.

| Where | What to write | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Outside tag | First name or initials + parent phone | Easy to return, does not broadcast your child's full name |
| Inside card | Full name, parent phones, hotel or home address | Airline and hotel staff check inside |
| Bottle and box labels | First name | Enough to sort out a mix-up |
Safety note If you are unsure, leave your child's full name off anything a stranger can read.
A real example: the travel kit Virat Kohli ordered
On 18 April 2026 we shared on Instagram that Virat Kohli had placed an order with us. We were packing personalised bag tags, labels and bottles for Akaay and Vamika's luggage, plus a small surprise from our side.
There were goosebumps while packing, and, honestly, a few nerves. A Forbes India Brand Connect feature in June 2026 also named him among our buyers.
We share it because the order is a neat summary of this checklist: tags for the bags, labels for the small things, a named bottle. It was an order, not an endorsement. The system is the same in every family.

Frequently asked questions
What should I write on my child's luggage tag?
A first name or initials and a parent's phone number on the outside. Put full contact details on a card inside the bag.
Is it safe to put my child's name on their bag?
A first name on a bag tag is common and helps staff return a lost bag. If you prefer, use initials outside and keep the full name inside.
Do kids need their own luggage tags if they travel with parents?
Yes, especially on the cabin backpack. A child puts it down and walks off without it more easily than a big suitcase, and a tag the child recognises helps them keep track of it.
Are silicone luggage tags better than paper ones?
For children, yes. Silicone survives rain, conveyor belts and being dropped, while paper tags tear and smudge.
How early should I order personalised luggage tags before a trip?
Personalised orders take 8 to 12 working days, so order at least two and a half weeks before you travel.
