Return gift ideas for Indian birthday parties, sorted by per-child budget and age, with live prices, an honest answer for ₹50 to ₹100 budgets, and a plan for ordering for a whole class.

The cake is ordered, the venue is booked and the guest list is finally on paper. Then someone on the family WhatsApp group asks the question that always comes last: "What are we giving as return gifts?"

You know the usual answer. A plastic bag with a balloon, a whistle and a toffee, finished before the car reaches home. The better answer costs about the same and comes home in the school bag for months.

This guide covers birthday return gifts for kids in India by budget and by age, plus how to plan for a whole class without the last-minute panic.

The short answer Fix a per-child budget first, then pick one thing a child will use again, sized for their age. For a class party of 20 to 30 children, ₹130 to ₹350 a child buys something useful, often with the child's name on it. For cousins and close friends, ₹400 to ₹800 buys something they will keep. Order anything personalised about three weeks before the party.

What makes a good birthday return gift?

Four quick tests. If a gift passes all four, it is a good one, whoever makes it.

It gets used again

A bag tag, a pair of clips, a box of crayons. A balloon and a whistle can be finished before the car reaches home.

It suits the age

For toddlers and preschoolers, skip anything with small parts. The Raising Children Network's choking prevention guide puts it simply: choking hazards include anything smaller than a 20-cent coin, so keep small objects away from little ones.

It is easy to hand over

One item per child, in a bag with the child's name on it, means no mix-ups at the door.

It feels chosen

A child's own name on a gift makes a ₹300 item feel personal. It also stops two siblings from fighting over whose is whose.

One thing they will use beats five things they will lose.

Under ₹150 a child

  • Build & Play Sharpener (₹129). A pencil sharpener that doubles as a set of building blocks. The product page says it is for children over 5 and contains small parts, so keep it for the school-age crowd.
  • Funky iron-on patches (₹129 a design). A parent irons it onto a bag, jeans or a T-shirt. Pick one design per party theme: space, dinosaurs, rainbows.

₹150 to ₹300 a child

  • Writable bag tags, pack of 2 (₹399 a pack, so about ₹200 a child). Waterproof silicone, 9 x 5.5 cm, and the child writes their own name. Useful when the guest list keeps changing, because nothing needs to be printed in advance.
  • Twisty Crayons, set of 12 (₹199). Twist-up crayons, 11 cm long, for ages 3 to 8. No sharpening, no broken tips in the car.
  • I-Spy game: At the Restaurant (₹279). An acrylic slate with reusable stickers for ages 3 to 6. It earns its keep the next time the family eats out.
  • Name bag tags (₹289). 9 x 5.5 cm with the child's name, for the school bag.
  • Personalised name hair clips, pack of 2 (₹229 to ₹335, most designs ₹299). One name per pack. Best for a smaller girls' guest list, and the product page advises grown-up supervision for children under 3.

₹300 to ₹450 a child

  • Waterproof name labels (₹329). A sheet of 40 labels, 7 x 2 cm, waterproof and microwave-safe according to the product page. The bottle, tiffin, pencil box and books all get the child's name. For more designs, see the gift labels and stickers collection.
  • Shape bag tags (₹339). An acrylic case with a silicone belt, 9 x 5.5 cm, in shapes like a dinosaur. The page lists ages 1 to 12.
  • Clicker bag charm (₹396). Two initials on a charm that clicks, so it is a fidget and a bag charm in one. Not for children under 3.
  • Toy labels, pack of 14 (₹399). Transparent name labels in mixed sizes for toys, boxes and bottles.
  • Candy name bag charm (₹439). Chunky pastel letters, up to 8 characters, strung in the order you type them.

₹500 and up: for cousins and best friends

A note on gift tag stickers

Personalised gift tag stickers (₹329) are not really a return gift. They are 2 x 2.5 inch waterproof tags for the wrapping. The product page says not to use them on clothes, bags or curved bottles.

Where they shine is at the door: stick one on each return gift bag with the guest's name, and every child finds their own.

Return gifts under ₹50 and ₹100: an honest answer

A lot of searches ask for birthday return gift ideas for 50 rs, so here is a straight answer. Nothing on our store sells for under ₹100 a piece. The cheapest items are ₹129 (the Build & Play Sharpener and iron-on patches).

If ₹50 to ₹100 a child is the budget, these work.

Split a pack

Kids 3D Stickers, pack of 9 (₹299, not personalised) works out to about ₹33 a child if each child gets one sticker. A set of 12 Twisty Crayons (₹199) split into four sets of three is about ₹50 a child.

Make something

A bookmark with each child's name in your child's handwriting, or a card your child decorates. It costs paper and an evening, and the birthday child gets to make the gift.

Give one small thing, not five

One pencil and one sticker in a paper bag reads as thoughtful. Five plastic bits in a plastic bag read as filler.

Or move up a tier

At ₹129, a sharpener or a patch is a gift that gets used.

Birthday return gifts by age

3 to 5 years

Big, simple and no small parts. Twisty Crayons (ages 3 to 8), an I-Spy slate (ages 3 to 6), a sticker pack, or name clips for girls with a grown-up around.

Skip the Build & Play Sharpener (ages 5 and up) and the clicker charm (not for under 3) for this group.

6 to 8 years

This is the sweet spot for things with their name on. Bag tags, shape tags, the clicker charm, the candy name charm, iron-on patches and the Build & Play Sharpener all work.

When two children compare gifts, a name on each one saves arguments.

9 and up

For older children, pick things that do not look babyish. Waterproof name labels for their own things, toy and stationery labels, a clicker charm with their initials, or a handkerchief set. If you can, let them pick the design.

Mixed guest list? Nearly everything here works for any child. The hair clips and hampers are the only girls-first picks, so keep a bag tag or a label sheet in mind.

Planning return gifts for 15 to 30 kids

A class party is a small logistics job. This order of steps keeps it calm.

The night before: let the birthday child help pack. It becomes part of the party.
Five steps to plan return gifts for a class party: fix the number, collect names early, order three weeks ahead, ask about bulk orders, pack in name order
Five steps for a class party. Send it to the other class parents.
  1. Fix the number. Take the guest list and add two spares for siblings and late RSVPs. Make the spares unnamed: writable bag tags, crayons or sticker packs.
  2. Collect names early. Ask on the class WhatsApp group, and check spellings with each parent. Clips and charms take up to 8 characters, so ask for a short name or nickname where needed.
  3. Order three weeks ahead. Personalised items are made to order, and our shipping policy says orders are processed and delivered in 8 to 12 working days across India. Orders over ₹399 ship free.
  4. Ask about bulk orders. For a whole class, message us on WhatsApp at +91 87796 54469 for bulk orders and enquiries before you place the order.
  5. Pack in name order. Put a gift tag sticker on each bag and line them up alphabetically. Handing them out at the door then takes two minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend per child on birthday return gifts in India?

There is no rule. Fix the total, divide by the number of children plus two spares, and choose inside that number. Useful options on our store start at ₹129, and most personalised picks sit between ₹289 and ₹439.

Are there good birthday return gifts under ₹100?

Nothing on our store costs less than ₹129 a piece, but you can split packs: a 9-sticker pack at ₹299 is about ₹33 a child, and 12 Twisty Crayons at ₹199 make four sets of three at about ₹50 each. Handmade bookmarks or cards also work.

Can every child get a gift with their own name?

Yes. Each personalised item is printed with the name you type for it. For girls' parties, the Kanjak hamper pack takes six different names in one order (₹1,199, about ₹200 a child).

How many return gifts should I buy?

One for every child on the guest list, plus two spares for siblings and late RSVPs. Keep the spares unnamed, like writable bag tags, crayons or sticker packs, so they suit any child.

How early should I order personalised return gifts?

About three weeks before the party. Items are made to order and delivered in 8 to 12 working days across India, and you need a few days to collect and check names.

What return gifts suit 5 year olds?

Twisty Crayons, an I-Spy game, a name bag tag or a sticker pack. Check the age on each product page, because some items, like the Build & Play Sharpener, are for children over 5.
